Scrapbook Beginner Seeks Catalogs By Mail …?

I am dying to try my hand at scrapbooking. I have endless mounds of supplies to get started with yet when I sit down ready to do it, I come up blank. I buy magazines with oodles of nifty how-to’s and product ideas yet I can’t seem to find actual tangible catalogs that come through the mail where I can find and even purchase products. I don’t want to download catalogs on my computer; I want to be able to actual mark in the catalog, make notes, and "see" what I am ordering without fear of being booted off the internet at any given moment!

I am in need of sites that will actually send me catalogs through the good old post and if anyone has any suggestions, ideas, or tips on how to get started on scrapbooking, I would be forever grateful if they would send them my way. I don’t know the lingo, what all the products do, what I need, the list goes on and on.

I fall in love with all the beautiful pages I see in the magazines and want to start building my own. Can anyone help me?!

The best place to start is at a crafts store – all of them have scrapbook classes that are inexpensive. They always have a variety of classes such as: beginner scrapbooking, how to use vellum, adhesives, etc. These classes are invaluable. You will get to talk to other scrappers and ask them questions, also you can look at the projects they are working on to see how they were put together. Do you have a Michaels or Hobby Lobby near you? Do not hestitate – go now. Archiver’s, by the way, has free beginner classes. Next, go to a crop. Most stores have them. You get together with other scrappers and scrap. I have learned so much by watching other scrappers at crops by watching them use their supplies and tools. You can also learn from catalouges. These magazine sites have lots of how-to’s, and loads of info: creatingkeepsakes.com, memorymakersmagazine.com. Another idea? – watch QVC and HSN when they are having scrapbooking day. As the hosts are demonstrating products you can learn all of the scrapping lingo, and also get to see how tools work. Hope this helps…

Despite what Thirt says, you CAN NOT use construction paper nor folders in a scrapbook – they are not acid free. Construction paper is especially harmful – it is very low quality paper and will destroy your photos. The photos will turn yellow and begin to crack within 2 years!

Scrapbook page idea for parade?

My family and I went to Sesame Place over the summer and I have a lot of great pictures of the characters from the Rock Around the Block parade. The people in the parade wore 50s type clothes so I was looking for embellishments like records or things from the 50s but I’m not having much luck. I can’t think of what kind of layout to do: background paper (plain or pattern), embellishments, etc. I would appreciate all ideas. Thanks!

Your on the right track. Check with a scrapbook supply or craft store.
I remember lots of plaids in the 50’s and demin, perhaps a paper with a demin pattern or using plaid paper strips with solid color would work. Try playing with the background papers in the store. I know the Michael’s and JoAnn, are pretty good about helping with ideas. Also you could go on line for embellishment pictures.

i want to make an dvd scrapbook for my boyfriends 16th b-day but i don’t have money to buy those scrapbook programs so im wonderingare they any free ones?

You could easily make a dvd slideshow movie using Movie Maker. You just drop in the pictures and the music you want to use. You can also add text, etc. This isn’t exactly a scrapbook, but it’s easy and free except the cost of the dvd.

Scrapbook ideas for adopted kids?

I am making a scrapbook page for a friends scrapbook who has two adopted kids. They are now 6 and 14 but when they were adopted they were about 12 months and 8. I have a picture of them the very first time they saw them I want to use. Can anyone give me any ideas of how I can do the layout?

Try using song lyrics in your next layout.

Song lyrics can be a great source of title and page inspiration for a scraper.

Music and songs play an important part in our lives. Hearing a song again can evoke a lot of emotion, bringing back fond memories of special times, special people and special places.

Of course, different songs mean different things to different people – but you can use songs to ‘tap’ into those memories to create unique, and highly personal scrapbook pages.

My son has lost five teenage friends in the last year, I want to include 2 pages in his senior scrapbook. HELP?

I thought i might title it "Forever Young" and include pictures of the five of them. I am just not sure how to lay this out. I would appreciate any layout ideas…background, pages, stickers whatever.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your sons friend. It must have been a very difficult year for all families. I think it is a wonderful idea to have a memory page in his senior scrapbook.

To be honest, I would keep the page very simple. I would go for an even coloured backpage, maybe something like dark blue. I would then put a picture of every friend on that page with their name underneath it and their date of birth and day of death. On the top of the page I would indeed put a caption, "Forever Young" seems appropriate.

I would then use a second page to put some quotes / memories / moments together on. Did they have a favourite place to hang out, favourite band, favourite team? Refer to those on that page.

One thing to bear in mind, please use copies of the pictures. It is always useful to have copies of pictures available.

I think your son will be very grateful for this gift.

I use Heritage Makers Studio for making invites, greeting cards, calenders and photo works. Their basic membership is Free and they have lots of templates to get you started or you can create your own with the many digital elements.
